Proffessional and accurate Video editing services
Working with video accessibility and closed captions often involves sound, video and text editing services to ensure accuracy. In addition to our standalone closed captioning, audio description and voiceover services, we provide editing services for existing videos, closed captions and subtitles. Here’s what we offer…

Subtitle Editing
Capital Captions provide services to edit and reformat existing subtitles
We work with editing and proofreading subtitles to ensure correct spellings, verbatim transcription and correct timings. We are also able to work with editing subtitles following video edits where a video has been altered with scenes added or removed.
Subtitle editing is a popular service for videos where transcription and/or subtitles have been automated and there are significant mistakes that need to be corrected. At Capital Captions, we don’t work with voice recognition or automation for our subtitles. We work only with professional, experienced subtitlers and writers to ensure the highest quality captions on the market.
Closed Caption Editing
Caption editing is a service that is often required when switching between caption formats and/or working with different video frame rates to avoid timecodes drifting out of sync. When working with broadcast and/or streaming content, working with different caption formats and specifications is often required. We work with editing to ensure compliance with different character limits, reading speeds, encoding other elements.
International closed caption editing. Where English closed captions are required for content in both the UK and the US, spellings will need to be QC’d to ensure English or US spellings as required.
Similarly, where translation is involved, closed captions often require significant reworking of the source caption file, with changes to reading speeds, subtitle splits, encoding and supported characters.
Post Production Script Editing and Combined Continuity Spotting Lists (CCSL)
Following on from finishing a production for broadcast or streaming services, post production script or continuity spotting list is often required. Capital Captions provide services to edit post production scripts to ensure accuracy. We also work with combined continuity spotting lists.
Creating a post production script involves editing of the original shooting script, with changes made to dialogue and descriptions as required. Overall, a post production script should contain dialogue, scene descriptions and timecodes for scene changes and featured music, with names listed. It should also contain a list of credits and/or onscreen text in the video.
A combined continuity spotting list should contain shot by shot details of the visual narrative within a video. This is the ‘continuity’ element. Alongside descriptions of the visuals in the video should be the subtitle information, with verbatim dialogue and sound effects and/or descriptions included. A combined continuity spotting list is the most detailed post production script format there is.
Audio Description Writing and Sound Editing
We know that Capital captions wok with video and text editing services, but we also work with visual narrative writing for use as audio description. We accept scripts (if available) which are then edited to ensure the right tone in visual descriptions. We are able to proofread and amend audio description text prior to recording to ensure full accessibility.
A major element of audio description is clarity of voice. Editing for audio description involves increasing and decreasing voiceover volume to ensure audibility over music and/or background noise in a video. Voices are also edited to DeEss, remove Reverb and clean up background noise, ensuring the clearest voice possible. Speeding up and slowing down voice can also be required in order to fit within the timing constraints of AD.

Capital Captions provide BSL interpreting services for video. Alongside recording and translation into BSL, we work with full video editing services with details outlined below:
